West Monkton Church of England Primary School is located in Monkton Heathfield, some 2 miles north-east of Taunton, the county town of Somerset.

The school was established in 1845 and move to it's present site in 1985. The spacious grounds and light, airy main buildings provide a pleasant environment for learning.

The children are organized into 8 class groups. The Reception children and some of the Year 1 children are taught in 2 classes. There are 2 parallel Year 1 and Year 2 classes. The key stage 2 classes are all single age group.

We were very proud to achieve Artsmark status in 2004 in recognition of our contribution to the arts. We devote a lot of time to the performing arts and our performances in the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre demonstrate how much the children achieve.
This year all children in Year 3 are learning the violin and Years 4 and 5 are learning to play brass instruments as part of the Wider Opportunities Scheme.

We also proud of our link with St Augustine's church. Father Geoff is a regular visitor to the school and the children look forward to his weekly assembly. (Although one Reception child did get rather confused at last year's Harvest service and referred to him as Farmer Giles!)
