Chipmonks After School Club

The Club
Parents of West Monkton Primary School children set up the club with support from the school and Somerset County Council. The aim is to provide reliable after-school childcare for pupils at the school. The club is managed by a Committee and staffed by experienced childcare/ playworkers.

The Staff
There are three members of staff. All are qualified, have experience of working with children and have been checked with the Criminal Record Bureau. The club has a maximum of 24 places.

How good is the club?
We think it is very good. The last OfSTED inspection found the club to be good too! The last OFSTED report took place in January 2008.

Registration and bookings
Before using the club you will need to register your child. A registration form can be obtained from the school office. Places are reviewed and allocated at the beginning of each academic year, securing it for at least 12 months, with payment ideally being made in advance on a termly basis. However, if places allow, bookings can be made a month or week in advance or even on the day, although there is no guarantee of a place. You can either book for a half session or a full session as shown:

Type Time Cost
Full 3:10 to 5:45 £6.50
Half 3:10 to 4:30 £5

Currently there are places available at the club. The club is a registered child-care facility for the purpose of the Working Families Tax Credit. If you want to speak to a member of staff please call in after school or ring on 07772 159682.

What happens at Chipmonks
The emphasis is on fun and relaxation. We recognise that the children have finished school for the day and the time at the club will be play rather than work-based. There will be a wide range of activities offered to suit all ages and interests. There will also be a quiet area for children who need to unwind or do some homework

Where and when?
The club operates in the school hall and also uses the outside facilities. Our all-weather play area has recently been resurfaced so we are able to play outside in all weathers. The club operates in the school term and a snack and a drink will be provided, which is included in the cost of the session.
The weekly menu rotates on a 4 weekly basis and is shown on the parents’ noticeboard.
